Making good money in real estate is not just a walk-in-the-park thing of buying and selling properties; it’s about knowing the market, the complete process, and being guided by core values. I was fortunate to experience success in this field when I sold a seven-door apartment with vacant land and a used house and lot along De la Montaña Avenue (now Pope John Paul II Avenue) in Cebu City’s bustling commercial district. That reasonable sum came when the property owner gave us exclusive authority to sell their commercial properties and even referred us to a relative to sell their prime property.
But here are my five best tips on how to make good money in real estate for a lifetime.
1. DECIDE to Commit to be in Real Estate.
Success starts with a firm decision. I earned my real estate broker’s license in 1997, but it wasn’t until two years later that I fully committed to the industry. After trying various ventures—buying and selling imported goods from Hong Kong, orchid propagation, and even catering—I found my true calling in real estate. Once I decided, I turned down other opportunities, including insurance and beauty products, to focus solely on my real estate profession.
2. LEARN the Industry Inside Out
After you decide, you must learn a lot about the real estate business, industry, properties, and the market. Knowledge is important, especially in real estate. Master all the real estate projects you are selling as much as possible. Learn which projects to offer or not to offer for investment. Be ready to give the best answer to any client question or clarification. Knowledge allows you to provide the best advice and establish trust with your clients, leading to more referrals and repeat business.
3. ACCEPT and OVERCOME Every Challenge
Challenges are unavoidable in any business, and real estate is no exception. Accepting each challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow and finding solutions helps you grow in your chosen profession and reputation in the industry.
4. Stay FOCUS on Real Estate
Stay focused on your decision to be in Real Estate. Don’t get distracted by unrelated opportunities offered by other people. Carrying only real estate products creates a brand, and people remember you when they need help with real estate. You may lose opportunities from other people’s invitations, but you gain much from where you focus.
5. PRAY Always.
Finally, consider the power of faith and staying grounded. Remember to pray even when you have mastered the real estate business and are making much money. Everything we do and decide should be done with God’s help and guidance.
In summary, making good money in real estate involves a decision, knowledge, resilience, focus, and a spiritual approach. Following these five tips, I am sure you can make good money in real estate, just as I have. Always remember that the journey may be challenging, but the results are worth it with the right mindset and strategy.
